Between 1970 and 2000, the percentage of women who were married by the time their first child was born decreased significantly, by 50 percent. The percentage of unmarried women who lived with their child’s father when their child was born rose from 8 percent to 28 percent.
Are the Attitudes toward Parenthood the Same?
Having a child will change a parent’s life for the better, but young couples often do not like the idea of getting married, as many of them had to live in a household with divorced parents. Naturally, the young couples see what their parents go through and will work to avoid that situation from happening to them.
In many situations, marriage is not financially feasible, as there has been a huge increase in the number of student loans that will need to be paid off in the near future.
